On July 19, 2023, The Federal Aviation Administration announced that it would finally include helicopters into the Light Sport category, opening the doors for new helicopter pilots to not only train in, but also purchase a safe and affordable personal helicopter.

In anticipation of the new LSA regulations, Advanced Tactics Inc. (a defense contractor in Torrance, California) will be modifying the RotorWay RW7 2-seat helicopter to create the AT-RX700 Light Sport Helicopter.

The Federal Aviation Authority’s MOSAIC update to the future of the Light Sport Aircraft category is great news for anyone interested in flying helicopters. Light Sport Helicopters will now be easier to fly, easier to find training in, won’t require a 3rd Class Medical, and can come fully-assembled while still maintaining the low cost of entry that experimental aircraft are known for.
